Ages Served:
Children: Ah yes, the little ones! How amazing it is that for those among us who can
be so completely candid in what they say, are so unable to verbalize much of what
they feel. Between their young minds, brief life spans, and bereft vocabulary, children,
not surprisingly, "speak" most profoundly through music, story, play, and art. Activities
for children are adjusted to their developmental levels, with little expectation by the
therapist for them to have insight or an understanding of concepts. Therapy does not
have to be the reason for children to come to Hearts'Arts. Yet it can be very
beneficial for them to appropriately release emotions that may underlie periods of
sadness, acting-out, or social withdrawal. Children with special needs, such as autism,
will be seen by a specially trained therapist.

Teens: Personally, you're my favorite group (Deb speaking, here). I respect your
struggles and stress levels, and I promise to not minimize your feelings. Regardless of
your musical preferences (hip-hop or R&B, underground or alternative, classical or
country), I find value in
ALL music as a form of self expression. I appreciate that you
are far more likely to explore the causes of your anger, depression, anxiety, or
whatever, when you know that I won't tell you how you "should" feel, think, or be.
The nutrients for your own growth are inherent in the process of creativity itself,
combined with your need to establish your individuality. I vow to reinforce nothing less
than your healthy self-image as it emerges from within your own creative nature.

Adults: What a stressed-out bunch we can be! Alas, it's the little things, like taking
an hour or two, once a week, to do something truly authentic and creative, that can
renew a sense of balance and wholeness. If you're already active in yoga or Pilates,
are regularly active in sports, or are a dedicated meditator, then consider how a
weekly creative endeavor will round things out for you. Surprisingly, it really doesn't
take long to get a refreshing glimpse of your renewable resource within. Dive in!
